“One of Europe’s best holiday homes”
“The Sunday Times” - February 2011
Santorini Villa Ivi is located in Megalochori, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages of Santorini. Built under the church of St. Anargyri, with its wonderful bell tower, Villa Ivi is a charming retreat for two couples or a small family seeking a private haven to experience the traditional life of Santorini.
Sheltered from the Cycladic winds, the traffic – free white streets of Megalochori village provide a peaceful and sought after alternative to the busiest touristic centres of Santorini, Fira and Oia. Megalochori’s location in the centre of the island is the ideal springboard to enjoy the attractions of Santorini Island, the famous sunset, the wineries, the local cuisine and the sea. It’s a common secret that large parts of the local population chooses Megalochori as their permanent resident and refer to it as a “safe harbour”.
Villa Ivi is located just a short walk from the central square of Megalochori with its Venetian architecture. Painted blue wooden doors lead the guests into the private beautiful courtyard, a real oasis of calm and tranquility in the hectic summer months. In the courtyard lies the stone jacuzzi, surrounded by comfortable sunbeds, built – in sofas and umbrellas.
Blue doors lead from the cobbled courtyard into the open – plan living area, which houses the the lounge and dining area and the well – equipped kitchen. In the background is on of the most impressive elements of the villa, the master bathroom. The large vaulted terracotta bathroom makes for quite the romantic ambience. The master bedroom is spacious, bright and overlooks the courtyard. Ample storage area is offered to the visitor through the next room walk – in closet.
A guesthouse with its own private entrance from the courtyard, has a second bedroom and a small charming en – suite bathroom.
The villa owner has preserved during the renovation the historical architectural elements of the early 20th century construction and villa Ivi can be appreciated as an accurate example of the island’s unique architecture.
Santorini Villa Ivi is hewn vertically into the volcanic soil. Built areas are roofed by domes, or groin vaults in a kind of mould - cast structure. It is made of Santorini black stone and Terra Theraic (Theraic earth). The cool, vaulted interiors throughout the villa give a feeling of relaxation and accentuate the earthy energy of the island. The Santorini - Theraic earth has insulating qualities and has proven to be an early example of bioclimatic architecture, keeping rock-hewn houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Villa Ivi and its outdoor Jacuzzi are ideal for “honeymooners” who want experience the authentic life of a traditional village in the beautiful Santorini Island.
